SCM supports Cleanwreck.org with professional woodworking machines.

The SCM Group is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and is today one of the leading manufacturers of processing machines for wood, advanced materials, plastics, stone, glass and metal. We asked Marco Di Pietro, digital marketing & communications specialist, for an interview.

Cleanwreck.org: Marco, you are the digital marketing & communications specialist at SCM. What exactly are your responsibilities and when and how did you join SCM?

Marco: I am in charge of all the marketing strategies (online and offline) that help SCM to propose its machines to the woodworking world. This includes the use of social networks, digital platforms like e-commerce, website, PayPerClick campaigns and collaborations with influencers of the woodworking sector and relevant customers.

Cleanwreck.org: SCM supports us with woodworking machines for the construction of our research vessels, including a cu410e. The universal combination machine is a jack-of-all-trades with a small space requirement. Who are typical users – apart from us – and why are these machines so popular?

Marco: This machine is the top of the range of SCM combination machines, this is the reason why it is so popular among both small joineries and bigger companies that have a sector dedicated to customization, joinery or prototyping.

Cleanwreck.org: SCM’s Code of Conduct states: “Protecting the environment to guarantee a future. Scm Group promotes actions that can guarantee sustainable development and protection of the environment.” Can you tell us a little more about this? What is SCM doing for climate protection?

Marco: SCM Group’s sustainable innovation processes concern both the industrial sites in Italy and its range of products and services. SCM woodworking technologies have among their advantages: reduction of factory footprint with compact and pro-space machines, and reduction of processing times, energy consumption and material waste. Real examples include simulation CAM systems and cutting optimisers such as Thundercut for joinery machines, as well as optimisers for tooling and cyclic or tool management. In terms of logistics, the new Autostore automatic warehouse for spare parts in Rimini is worth mentioning: it manages 30 thousand references in just 900 square metres and employs 19 highly energy-efficient robots (less than 1.1 Kwh consumed per robot) for picking operations.

Cleanwreck.org: What is your personal connection to the sea and marine conservation?

Marco: I simply love the sea. It is a sort of addiction that I have always had. I feel the physical need to contemplate and smell the sea, walking on the beach and be relieved from all the stress and thoughts. It is a special place, detouched from the rest, detouched from time, a place where you can dig into yourself and find out what is really important in life, with no distraction from daily routine and society…and all this has to be preserved!

Cleanwreck.org: Thank you very much, Marco!
