Crew wanted

Basic information on all tasks on the ship:

When we’re not busy diving for oil on wrecks, ghost nets or other stuff that doesn’t belong in the sea, we sail our ship to the next spot. That means we spend most of our time sailing or diving. This results in the following requirements that you should meet if you are considering a future on board:

The mastheads are at a height of around 30 meters. Unlike sports sailing boats, where in the vast majority all sails can be controlled from the deck or even from the cockpit, we routinely require you to climb into the rig; and either way, the sun doesn’t always shine! Even, and sometimes especially, in a heavy weather, all the moves have to be right. This means that surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential, as is a good “seaworthiness”. The good news is that resistance to vertigo and seasickness can be trained! But nothing works without a strong affinity for the ocean! Last but not least, you need to be a good team player, because at sea everything only works as a team – sometimes for many, many weeks. The reward for this is a great job, the likes of which are hard to find nowadays!

Facts and Positions

Guiding principles

Basic requirements for all officers:

  • Fitness for sea service (comparable to STCW)
  • Fitness to dive (technical diving)
  • Fluent English

Minimum requirements that must be met by all officers before the first mission:

  • Basic safety training
  • Basic sail training and safety in the rig
  • First aid
  • Tec TMx Diver (OC/CC)
  • Swimming skills (lifeguard level)
  • Short Range Certificate

You do not necessarily have to have all the qualifications required for the individual position at the beginning. We all grow with the job! As with everything we do, it should be a win-win-win situation – for you, for us and for the sea!

Departments on board:

All officers for the following positions are considered to be aboard (part of the permanent crew)

Deck department

As a deck officer, you are responsible for the safe navigation of the ship. This includes mastering the sailing maneuvers (and instructing the guests/trainees), radio communication, watchkeeping, etc.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

  • Nautical license, for example at least a Yachtmaster B (500GT), or RYA YM Ocean, or similar
  • LRC (radio certificate)

Technical department

As an engineer, you are responsible for the hardware on the ship, from the sails to the secondary electric propulsion system. All maintenance and repairs are part of your very extensive area of responsibility.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

  • Broad interdisciplinary technical understanding and good manual skills

Steward’s department

The galley is all yours! You are in charge of purchasing and preparing all food and drinks according to nutritional science and therefore have a high level of responsibility for the well-being of everyone on board and the safe operation of the ship. The procurement and correct composition of all food supplies is sometimes a great challenge away from Central European supermarkets.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

  • Professional chef with a talent for improvisation

Diving

The diving department is the heart of the entire mission, so to speak. As we work far beyond all recreational diving limits and have to rely 100% on perfect planning and equipment that is as well maintained as possible, nothing works in this department without the highest level of professionalism. Apart from planning and supervising all diving activities, you will also manage the instruction of the trainees. Together with the engineer and the doctor, you are also in charge of the decompression chamber.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

TMx Instructor (OC/CC)

Oceanography

As head of this department, you will cover the entire field of marine science. In particular, you ensure that the daily operation of the ship and all missions have the lowest possible impact on the sea, fauna and flora. You are also responsible for the professional archaeological conservation of the wrecks.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

Degree in marine sciences

Medical

As the ship’s doctor, in addition to the usual duties of this position, you will also be responsible for the decompression chamber in collaboration with the engineer and the dive master. You will also be responsible for the professional first aid training of the entire crew.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

  • medical license

Security

As a safety officer, you watch over the safety of all souls on board. Your area of responsibility ranges from PPE, fire protection and firefighting to defense against pirates.

Additional qualifications required for this position:

  • Military training or similar
